Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is responsible for the management of transportation of the state which includes railways, roadways, canals and terminals such as railway stations, airports, bus stations etc. It manages inter-connectivity of all the transportation means for the efficient movement of goods and people of the Georgia.

Road Transportation in Georgia

The state Department of Transportation has come up with many effective ways to improve the road transportation. GDOT uses a versatile approach to deal with travel needs and assist protect the security and well-organized movement of people and goods on highway system.

MARTA buses has services on weekdays and timing for same is 5 a.m. to 1:00 a.m and until 12:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays.

MARTA Bus Services

All riders must carry a Breeze Card to get the bus facilities. There are 38 rail stations where you can get this from a Breeze Vending Machine or at any of the MARTA Ride stores.

Cobb Community Transit

Cobb Community Transit or CCT is the reliable way to get access to bus facilities in Cobb County and to Downtown Atlanta via Express, Fixed or Paratransit services. The transfer of fund will automatically load if you are using Breezer card.

Georgia's Adopt-A-Highway Program encourages people to clean roadsides by removing litters. Many volunteers participates in it to help remove and augment this program. It organizes many programs in which many companies and organization participates to create more and more awareness among people. It also helps in promoting pride and civic responsibility.

Rail Transportation of Georgia

Amtrak's has two long distance rail lines in Georgia which serves people in the northwestern part of Georgia and along the coast. The state has only few stations, so train service mainly connects cities in other states to the north and south to Atlanta and Savannah.

Georgia ports plays main roles in augmenting state's economy to benefit all Georgians by international trade and investment. They play a significant role in providing many jobs and business opportunities to the people of Georgia.

The Port of Savannah comprises of two deepwater terminals, namely Ocean Terminal and Garden City Terminal. It has convenient state-of-the-art cargo- handling equipment, intermodal connections and value-added services.

The Port of Brunswick is the nation’s busiest sea port for automobile imports. The terminal is also home to agri based products from Georgia, the South Atlantic’s huge export / import operation and the expending U.S. grain belt, as well as from the Colonel’s Island docks and import products.

Georgia’s Scenic Byways

Altamaha- The Byway passes the Butler Island, Fort King George, Darien waterfront and Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantations, sweeping marsh views.

Cohutta-Chattahoochee- It moves across Fort Mountain State Park and passes through beautiful mountaintop.

Enduring Farmlands- Attractions of the byway include horse and cattle pasture lands, Hawkinsville’s Old Opera House, farmers markets and festivals, scenic pecan groves, and farmland (grapes, soybeans, cotton, corn, peanuts, peaches, blueberries) civil war heritage sites.

Historic Effingham-Ebenezer - It passes through the communities of Guyton, Ebenezer, Springfield, and Rincon, exhilarate the beauty and history of one of Georgia’s eight original counties and of Ebenezer, founded by German Lutherans seeking religious freedom.

Historic Piedmont- This passes across the Oconee and Ogeechee Rivers, Oconee National Forest and past acres of rolling farmland.

I-185- It passes through mixed pine forest terrain as well as scenic views of local region beyond the limits of the interstate route

Meriwether-Pike- It passes through the Oakland Baptist Church, Red Oak Covered Bridge and Jones Mill.

Millen-Jenkins County- The Millen-Jenkins County Museum displays cotton mill equipment, Native American Indian artifacts, local histories and tools.

Monticello Crossroads - This Byway exhibits the rural and historic qualities of the area.

Ocmulgee-Piedmont- It moves across the communities of Bradley, Wayside, and Round Oak.

The Ridge & Valley Scenic Byway- You can amuse yourself withoutdoor activities such as hiking, camping, picnicking, fishing, and hunting at the Wildlife Management Area, the Pocket, Keown Falls Scenic Area and John's Mountain Overlook.

Russell-Brasstown- It offers numerous entertaining opportunities such as camping, fishing and hiking facilities found along the Byway.

South Fulton- The South Fulton Scenic Byway uses Hutcheson Ferry Road, Cochran Mill Road and State Highway.

Warren County- Piedmont- It serves as a continuation of the Historic Piedmont Scenic Byway (located in Putnam and Hancock counties) and offers ample opportunity for recreation such as hunting, equine activities golfing, fishing, cycling, boating, camping and hiking.

The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority manages air quality and mobility in metro Atlanta and acts as the Governor's voice for implementation of plans for Georgia's most populous region.
